This year's Textbook Sharing Project collected more than 725,000 used textbooks to help students from low-income families.

About 25,000 students between the ages of 7 and 16 were recently invited to receive used textbooks. The remaining textbooks will be open for public collection today and tomorrow. The public needs to make an appointment online first.

The program, now in its 40th year, has attracted more than 2,700 volunteers in the past six weeks to help collect, sort and distribute used textbooks, the largest number ever.

Do you know the great use of old books?

Even in the era of rampant electronic reading products, paper books are still a must-buy choice for many people. Not only because paper reading can give people a more real tactile experience, but more importantly, perhaps for most people, flipping books has become a habit.

Books have always played a vital role in the dissemination of human knowledge and civilization, and the publication of a large number of books each year is the main way of paper consumption.

It is reported that an average of more than 22 billion books are sold in each country every year, and the annual output of paper is as high as 3 million tons.

If all can be recycled, 2.4 million tons of good paper can be produced, which is equivalent to saving 51 million trees, saving 900,000 cubic meters of landfill space, saving 720,000 tons of soda ash, and reducing pollution emissions from papermaking 75%, saving 40%-50% of papermaking energy consumption.

After such a huge number of books are produced and purchased, most of them will be left on the shelves, and it is difficult to read and remember them. Their placement has also become a problem, after all, placement requires a certain amount of storage space. However, traditional book recycling, according to the waste paper model, has low returns, and more importantly, it cannot give full play to the due value of books.

In order to prevent the waste of resources, it is very necessary to recycle idle books, which is of great significance to energy conservation and environmental protection.

Under the concept of supporting environmental protection, multiple platforms in many countries have opened old book recycling services, providing a more portable recycling path for every idle book.

Such an old book recycling program maximizes the value of each book.

These old books will be circulated on the premise that some of the old books will be recycled after recycling, and the proceeds will be used to support the sustainable development of public welfare undertakings.

Thereby improving the enthusiasm of the whole people to read, in addition to improving resource utilization and reducing pollution. Books that cannot be repaired or are not suitable for students to read are collected and processed centrally and handed over to paper mills in the form of entrusted processing for the recycling of pulp.

Wasted paper is pulped through crushing, screening, deinking, rinsing, etc. After the pulp is formed, it can become kitchen paper towels, recycled paper, cardboard, etc.
